Botox typically treats dynamic wrinkles, or “wrinkles of motion”. Not only does Botox treat wrinkles, it is scientifically proven to prevent wrinkles. This makes botox unique as younger patients in their 20’s and 30’s are getting botox done in a preventative manner. These areas are typically around the eyes and above. Treatment with botox typically lasts 3 months.
Botox is a neuromuscular blocking agent that works by stopping muscle contractions that cause wrinkles from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows. Repeated contraction of these muscles over time, causes these muscles to hypertrophy (enlarge), which causes the skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. The procedure starts to work in 48 to 72 hours and can last up to 4 months. If the procedure is not repeated at 4 months, the motion will return and so will the wrinkles.
